This part number refers to a crucial FPM (fluoride rubber) O-ring seal, commonly used to seal the camshaft bearing bridge or cam cradle to the cylinder head. It prevents pressurised engine oil from leaking out of the camshaft bearing journals.
Due to age and constant exposure to heat, this seal can harden, flatten, and crack. A failed seal will cause a significant engine oil leak from the top of the engine, often dripping down onto the hot exhaust manifold or transmission bellhousing, which creates a distinct burning oil smell and can be a fire hazard.
