Description

This is a fixed timing chain guide rail, typically the upper guide rail that sits between the two camshaft sprockets. Its primary function is to control slack and oscillations on the top side of the timing chain, ensuring it tracks correctly between the intake and exhaust camshaft gears.
Similar to other plastic guides, this part is subject to wear from the moving chain. Failure or significant wear will result in a rattling noise from the top of the engine. If the guide breaks apart, the debris can contaminate the engine oil, and the resulting slack in the chain can lead to camshaft timing deviation faults or, in the worst case, the chain jumping time.
