Description

Common symptoms of failure include rough idle, poor throttle response, check engine light with fault codes P0010, P0011, P0012, P0013, P0014 (camshaft position/timing faults), increased fuel consumption, and rattling from the engine bay on cold start. Replacement advice: Always replace the oil control valve if fault codes persist after clearing. Inspect and clean the valve bore in the camshaft carrier before fitting. Use fresh engine oil meeting VW specification 502 00 or 504 00. Torque to approximately 8–10 Nm when refitting the retaining bolt — do not overtighten.
