Description

The coolant temperature sensor (CTS) monitors engine coolant temperature and transmits data to the ECU to regulate fuel mixture, ignition timing, and cooling fan operation. Faulty sensors commonly cause symptoms including erratic temperature gauge readings, poor cold-start performance, increased fuel consumption, engine overheating warnings, and fault codes such as P0115, P0116, P0117, or P0118 logged in the engine management system. This sensor is typically located on the engine coolant housing or thermostat assembly and should be inspected whenever cooling system components are serviced. Always depressurise the cooling system before removal and ensure the engine is cool to prevent scalding.
