Description
The left engine mount (also referred to as the left engine support or transmission-side mount on some variants) is a critical component in the engine mounting system, responsible for securing the engine to the subframe and absorbing torque and vibration under load. Common symptoms of a failed or worn engine mount include excessive engine movement during acceleration or braking, vibration felt through the steering wheel or floor, clunking or knocking noises from the engine bay at startup or during gear changes, and visible cracking or collapse of the rubber mount element upon inspection. Replacement is recommended in pairs where possible to ensure balanced engine support and to avoid premature wear on the opposing mount. When installing, torque the mount-to-subframe bolts to approximately 60 Nm and the mount-to-engine bracket bolts to approximately 40 Nm — always verify against the applicable workshop manual for your specific engine code and variant, as torque values may differ across 1.8T, 2.0 TDI, 3.0 TDI, and V6 petrol applications.
