This is a one-time-use M8x85mm Torx head bolt. It is a long torque-to-yield (TTY) or “stretch” bolt used in various applications, including securing the A/C compressor, alternator bracket, and certain areas of the oil pan, where a high and consistent clamping load is critical.
This bolt is engineered to stretch into its elastic limit upon installation to provide a secure hold that resists vibration. Once it has been torqued and subsequently removed, it is permanently elongated and weakened. Reusing the bolt can lead to it breaking, stripping the threads in the engine block, or failing to provide adequate clamping force, leading to component failure or leaks.
